Energy communities are established with the aim of creating a self-sufficient and independent model of renewable energy production at the local level, often referred to as "zero-kilometer" renewable energy.
A renewable energy community is typically formed by an association of citizens, businesses, local public administrations, and small to medium-sized enterprises. It is centered around the production, exchange, and consumption of energy from renewable sources on a local scale.
The European challenge in recent years has been the energy transition, with the RED II Renewable Energy Directive introducing the concept of Renewable Energy Communities, a new model for production and consumption.
There are two types of energy communities:
-
CER (Community of Renewable Energy)
- CEC (Citizen Energy Community)
CER (Community of Renewable Energy) - This model includes prosumers and consumers. Prosumers produce energy from renewable sources for self-consumption, while consumers represent those who consume the energy produced within the community.
CEC (Citizen Energy Community) - These communities are primarily composed of individual citizens who collaborate on renewable energy projects.
Renewable energy communities have legal autonomy and can make independent investment decisions. The advantages they offer include economic returns, cost savings on energy bills, and participation in a sustainable ecosystem that improves overall quality of life and reduces CO2 emissions.
Setting up renewable energy communities often involves the installation of photovoltaic systems. The cost of this initiative can benefit from a 50% restructuring bonus
The electricity generated is partly consumed locally, providing direct benefits, and partly shared with the entire community. Electricity production is incentivized through premium tariffs in addition to market prices, creating an effective and sustainable model.
After the establishment of a Renewable Energy Community, it is essential to monitor energy consumption and needs to optimize the use of the energy produced. Consumers can access data on energy exchange and consumption.
MIR Solution supports interested parties in building and establishing these energy communities. We offer tailored solutions, starting from preliminary analyses and proceeding to optimize energy sharing to access economic incentives. Our proposed technologies facilitate the electrification of consumption, resulting in eco-friendly and functional systems.
